About Seppo
Seppo Salminen is an award winning producer/drummer/engineer based in Toronto, Canada. His work has been extensive and has included everything from drummer and multi-percussionist, to engineer and producer, to custom drum set builder and teacher/clinician. His work includes not only original music for local and international artists, but also for corporate video productions, commercials, and radio programs. At his studio, RNM Production, his focus has always been to help the up and coming artists struggling to be heard, and has produced music in a complete scope and variety of styles.
Awarded the prestigious CRYSTAL AWARD for advertising excellence in 2002, Seppo’s work on various CDs has earned him JUNO AWARDS and ‘Album of the Year’ nominations. Known for his solo project ‘Joe’s Conscience,’ he’s currently immersed in crafting a highly anticipated follow-up.
Beyond his musical endeavors, Seppo has ventured into writing musical ‘Soundscapes’ for Sony Canada and serves as a multifaceted force at RNM Productions—where he wears the hats of a writer, producer, and engineer. With a rich drumming background that includes over 35 CD credits and a noteworthy 12-year collaboration with The Penny Merchants, Seppo is currently working on his second solo album under the ‘Joe’s Conscience’ banner. Additionally, he collaborates with The Roaming Coyotes in both recording and live performances.
A seasoned teacher and clinician with over 30 years of experience, Seppo has imparted his knowledge to diverse audiences, ranging from youth groups to university classes. His impactful teaching journey led him to Tanzania in 2015, where he spent ten transformative days teaching percussion, drums, and music theory to local students, teachers, and community members.
In the realm of custom drum work and technical expertise, Seppo has collaborated with top professional drummers, including Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones and Johnny Fay of The Tragically Hip during his 2016 national tour. Seppo has conducted drum and percussion clinics for renowned organizations and manufacturers such as Paiste Cymbals, Sabian Cymbals, Simmons Electronics, Zen-Drum, Evans Drum Heads, and TRS Custom Drums. His enduring passion for music, coupled with his vast contributions and influence, continues to shape the musical landscape.
